During the 1st century BC, brass was used for coinage in various regions of Asia Minor. It was later used throughout the rest of Asia and in Europe, mainly by the Roman Empire with the creation of the brass sesterce. In Europe, some pieces have been found, such as the boar standard from Soulac-sur-Mer, a Gallic artifact from the 1st century BC. It has been used in Europe since the Middle Ages for multiple purposes.
